Who we are

The Devco Stagiaires are a dynamic group of 40 trainees in the European Commission, more particularly in the Directorate General Development and Cooperation - EuropeAid (DG DEVCO). The Devco Stagiaires, along with 600 other trainees in the European Commission and the European External Action Service, belong to the Stage Committee, through which we get our legal existence as a group.
DG DEVCO work in collaboration with EU Delegations in partner countries, with the partner countries themselves, with civil society, with international institutions such as the UN, the World Bank, etc, and many other actors. Within the Devco Stagiaires there is a very strong interest in learning and experiencing the work we are doing as perceived by the EU's partners. For this reason, we decided to start organising a trip in a neighbour country receiving development aid from the EU. The choice fell on Tunisia, because of its accessibility, its close links to Europe and, more importantly, its role in the Arab Spring. The aim of the trip is to meet students, scholars, activists, human rights defenders, development professionals, the EU delegation and local authorities in order to have an exchange of views, opinions and experiences throw organizing the Tunisia-EU Youth Workshop on the Arab Spring. This would allow us and the people we meet to improve our understanding of the way European development works, how efficient it is and what could be improved. It would also give us the knowledge to then distribute this knowledge afterwards.

The Delegation and the Projects
The group of Devco Stagiaires also aims at learning how the EU institutions contribute to support democracy in the countries of the Arab Spring. This will be done through an organised visit and talk with the European Union Delegation in Tunis. As European Commission trainees we could very easily contact the delegation and had their immediate support. The precise organisation of the meeting with the delegation is already well under way.
Similarly, going to visit projects supporting democracy directly seemed a compulsory component of the trip. The organising group is in touch with the EU Delegation and various local Civil Society Organisations (CSO) in order to arrange visits to projects, both in Tunis and outside. This will allow the learning experience to be complete.
